With a unique palette of the colors and textures of broken china, Southern California artist Dawn Mendelson applies pique assiette mosaic to a variety of forms and surfaces. Initially a creative writer, she has found the intent of her words is more readily expressed through the immediacy of color. By combining handcrafted bits of ceramic with mass-produced china, she joins the past and the present, creating surprising harmony through the language of mosaic. Dawn works on both big and small projects, from fine vases to large scale murals for public and private spaces. She has been featured on HGTV and also teaches beginning mosaic, working with both adults and children. She is Artistic Director and an instructor with Piece by Piece, a non-profit organization that brings mosaic art to inner-city communities. Her work is exhibited in institutions and private collections; and is available through various museum stores and galleries throughout the western region.

A community event will be held in August, 2024 in conjunction with this exhibition, funded by Community Partners/ LA County Department of Arts and Culture.
