The Scarecrow Festival celebrates autumn in the foothills when the leaves begin to change, and crows begin to take over Sierra Madre!
Beginning in August we kick off our festival with our crow scavenger hunt for kids! Specially marked crows are hidden around town. Find one and bring it into Creative Arts Group for a special treat! Next up we offer a free scarecrow making workshop to help you build your scarecrow. Scarecrows begin to appear throughout the town the last week of September and generally stay through the month of October. Maps will be available on our website, or you can pick up a print version at Creative Arts Group beginning October 2nd. Find the scarecrows by yourself or sign up for our free shuttle tour. Once you find a scarecrow, be sure to read it’s story on our website and our Facebook page. Citizens are encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow via Facebook ‘Likes’ or by filling in the paper ballot found on the print map and returning to Creative Arts Group.
Our festival culminates in an evening awards ceremony on Friday, October 20th, honoring the creativity of our community members. Prizes are awarded in categories ranging from most humorous to best use of technology and everything in between.
We invite you to join in the fun. Make a scarecrow, enter the contest, tour them all and vote for your favorite! And last but not least, come celebrate the creativity of your neighbors at our awards ceremony!

September 23rd – Deadline to Enter the Contest
Sierra Madre residents and businesses can enter the contest to win a coveted crow award and community recognition for your creative endeavor! To register, fill out our online application or pick up a paper form at Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre. After we receive your entry form, you will be given an ID tag so that people can vote for your scarecrow. Your scarecrow will have its own web page with it’s picture and backstory (if you want to provide one)! Learn more about participating in the contest here.
October 7th, Free Shuttle Tour – Reserve your spot on the shuttle online, in person or by phone (626) 355-8350.
Our online and print map of the scarecrows will be available October 1st. Gather your friends and family for self-guided walking tours or bike tours through out Sierra Madre. If you’d like a ride to see the scarecrows, then join us on October 7th for a FREE shuttle tour! Don’t miss this opportunity to see many of the scarecrows together with fellow scarecrow enthusiasts! The tour will drive by approximately 30 scarecrows hidden in the residential streets of Sierra Madre. Please note that the shuttle will not be able to visit every scarecrow in the contest due to location of the various scarecrows and the duration of the tour.
The buses leave from Creative Arts Group at 10:00am, 12:00 noon and 2:00pm.
